Italicum, the Constitutional Court postpones

The Constitutional Court has postponed the hearing on the legitimacy of the new electoral law, the so-called Italicum, set for 4 October to a later date.

In a note, the Consulta says that "the President of the Constitutional Court, having heard the panel, has decided to postpone to a new role the discussion of the questions of constitutional legitimacy, raised by the Courts of Messina and Turin in relation to law n.52 of 2015 (“Italicum”), scheduled for the UP of 4 October 2016”.

In recent days there had been rumors about the possibility of a "freeze" of the dossier on the electoral law, which came into force only two months ago, due to the imminence of the constitutional referendum which could change the parliamentary architecture.

The goal, therefore, is not to interfere in popular consultation. Meanwhile, the Chamber of Deputies discusses the Sel motion to amend the Italicum immediately.
