Imu, Rome pays twice as much as Milan

The absolute primacy instead belongs to Portofino: 1.030 euros on average on the first home and 1.761 on other properties - The municipality where you pay the least is Zerfaliu, a small Sardinian town in the province of Oristano where taxpayers pay just over 16 euros on main residence.

Imu, Rome pays twice as much as Milan

In Rome, the IMU on first homes costs twice as much on average as in Milan, where, however, the tax is higher for second homes and businesses. The primacy instead belongs to Portofino, the Italian municipality where the tax is absolutely highest: 1.030 euros on the first home (and it is an average). At the opposite end of the rankings is Zerfaliu, a small Sardinian town in the province of Oristano (1.081 inhabitants): taxpayers spent an average of just 16,14 euros for their main home.

But let's go back to the comparison between the two main Italian cities. In the Capital, a total of over half a billion (565.361.194 euros) was paid for the first home, for an average of 537,07 euros per taxpayer. A completely different story in Milan, where the total revenue came close to 140 million (139.666.791 euros), or 292,29 euros for each individual taxpayer.

If we broaden the analysis to the taxation of properties other than the first home, however, the situation is very different. On this front, more than one and a half billion euros (1.553.777.769) was paid in Rome, an average of 1.253,47 euros per taxpayer, while in Milan the amount collected exceeded 900 million (923.030.446 euros), for an average of about 100 euros higher than that of the capital (1.349 euros).

As for the wealthy Portofino, the tax on properties other than first homes also presented a really steep bill: over 2,4 million euros were paid overall, for an average of 1.761 euros. And in Zerfaliu? The same figure is 62,62 euros.
