In the North West, Italian entrepreneurship is losing ground; but not that of foreigners. In fact, from the beginning of January to the end of June this year, foreign companies active in the three regions increased by almost a thousand units - 926, to be precise - thus becoming 64.826; while Italian ones decreased to 544.470, from 547.599 as at 31 December 2017. In the half year, foreigners increased by 1,4%, Italians decreased by 0,57% (over 3.000 units).
From the disaggregation of the Unioncamere and Infocamere data, it emerges that foreign companies - thus defined as those with a prevalence of shareholders, owners and directors of foreign origin - on 30 June of this year were 43.269 in Piedmont (42.667 on the first day of January) , 20.866 in Liguria (20.564) and 691 in Valle d'Aosta (669).
Including the Italian companies, the companies registered with the Chambers of Commerce at the end of June 2018 were 433.865 in Piedmont (436.043 exactly six months earlier), 163.017 in Liguria (162.949) and 12.414 in Valle d'Aosta (12.507).
Therefore, the share of foreign women came close to 10% in Piedmont and 13% in Liguria, while it remained contained below 6% in Valle d'Aosta (the national average is 9,8%, corresponding to the 596.000 foreign out of the total of 6.094.624 active businesses in our country). In Italy, the most numerous foreign entrepreneurs have become the Chinese, who have also surpassed the Moroccans and Romanians. As at 31 December 2017, there were 80.514 Chinese entrepreneurs operating in the Peninsula, compared to 79.391 Moroccans, 77.082 Romanians and 46.974 Albanians.
In particular, there were 4.492 Chinese entrepreneurs in Piedmont (2.385 at the end of 2009), 1.685 in Liguria (896), 58 in Valle d'Aosta (24) and 6.235 in the three regions. In Valle d'Aosta, their number has increased by 141,7% in the last eight years, the highest rate of increase at a national level. In Piedmont the increase was 88,3% and 88,1% in Liguria. In the three regions of the North West, as of 30 June, Chinese companies accounted for 9,6% of foreign companies and 1% of all companies registered by the Chambers of Commerce of the area.
