Ilva: from Cdp expression of interest

Today is the deadline for expressions of interest – The Marcegaglia group should also be in the game – Meanwhile, all Ilva workers are on strike and Confindustria is also joining the mobilization.

La Cassa Depositi e Prestiti submitted an expression of interest for theIlva of Taranto. The move came after a few days ago the CEO of Cdp, Fabio Gallia, had communicated the Cassa's willingness to enter the game for the relaunch of the steel group with a minority role.

It should be in the game too the Marcegaglia group, led by the president and managing director Antonio Marcegaglia, who will present his expression of interest for the acquisition (or lease) of the assets of the Riva family steelworks by today.

As creditor banks, "we are not part of the search process for one or more new investors" for the new Ilva, but "we hope that the new company will restart with strong investors and shareholders, because everyone's interest is at stake, including the banks ", he said Federico Ghizzoni, CEO of Unicredit. “I look very favorably on the search for an industrial partner and if there is also an Italian component, it's just a pleasure”, she added.

Meanwhile, today, "all Ilva workers go on strike to claim a certain and stable future for all the group's plants", explains the general secretary of Uil in a note, Carmelo Barbagallo. Confindustria Taranto will also participate in the strike with its own delegation.

The trade unionist adds that still today "the deadline for the proposals of interest from entrepreneurs who intend to take over the company expires. At that point, an acceleration of the process will be necessary which does not go to the detriment of the industrial project and which therefore determines a definitive structure, avoiding any hypothesis of 'stew'. At the same time, we must aim at safeguarding employment, the environment and production: we owe it to all workers, citizens and the country's economy".

Tomorrow, Thursday 11 February, the commissioners will meet, while the deadline to locate one or more businesses is required by law for June, a deadline within which the commissioners themselves will have to decide how to proceed, then assigning four years to complete the handover.
