Corporate jets are often presented by top executives to their shareholders as an essential tool for saving time and money. Nothing more true. Except that often the time and money involved is not that of the company footing the bill. An investigation conducted by the Wall Street Journal using the records of the Federal Aviation Authority has revealed that in 30% of cases, the jets of major American companies fly to and from holiday destinations. More precisely towards those locations where managers with access to aircraft have a home. In some cases, the research has shown that around half of the trips were made to cities that had nothing to do with company activities. In the case of the EMC corporation, a company specializing in computer memory, the fleet of 5 corporate jets was deployed 31% of the time on what at first appear to be decidedly vacations, with one of the five aircraft being used for such purpose even in 47% of cases. The research was carried out comprehensively and, according to reports from the American financial newspaper, took into account practically all the trips made by corporate jets in the United States in the period 2007-2010.
