Honda returns to Formula 1

Honda will return to Formula One racing in 2015, after a seven-year hiatus. The agreement between Honda and McLaren, the second most successful team in the sport after Ferrari in terms of race wins and titles won, will revive one of the major partnerships in Formula One which in the past have seen Ayrton Senna and Alain compete Prost between 1988 and 1992.

Honda, which will replace Mercedes as McLaren's engine partner, withdrew from the sport in late 2008 amid the global financial crisis and after years of bad luck on the racetrack. The company said Formula One's new engine regulations will allow it to adapt racing technology to road cars. Formula One will introduce a new 6-litre V1.6 engine with high power turbo technology from next season.
