Government, the tug of war continues between Conte and Renzi

Government, the tug of war continues between Conte and Renzi

Giuseppe Conte tries to mend in extremis with Matteo Renzi, but it is not said that he will succeed because the leader of Italia Viva does not trust the promises, wants to see the cards, wants to judge the entire package of proposals and above all would like an act of discontinuity with the resignation of the prime minister before giving the green light to new government political solutions, ranging from a Conte ter to a new government.

However, the general impression is that we have reached the last corner and that the turning point will come at the beginning of the week: either a new agreement or a break.

Yesterday evening, before the meeting of the Italia Viva parliamentarians, Conte launched an appeal saying he was ready to accept a large part of Italia Viva's requests on the Recovery Plan and to start a legislative pact with a reinforced team (read: reshuffle with important ministers of Italia Viva) but he slipped once again on the use of the Mes health care and on the delegation of the management of the secret services to a trusted personality. That's why Renzi doesn't trust him and that's why he insists on a preventive act of discontinuity by the prime minister, ready to withdraw his ministers in the event of no agreement. The Democratic Party tries to mediate but also in the ranks of the Democratic Party the unease of parliamentarians is growing who wonder why the largest party of the left must sacrifice itself in defense at all costs of the current prime minister who on the most delicate issues - Mes health, secret services, condemnation of Trump - and on the need for a qualitative leap in the management of the Recovery Plan does not respond.

However, the games remain open and all the solutions are still in the field even if Conte's trust in Renzi and Renzi's in Conte now seem definitively compromised. On Tuesday at the latest, a showdown or a last-minute clarification should be reached.
