Government: "In the autumn we will speed up PA payments, IMU reform by 15 August"

The Government undertakes to accelerate the payment of public debts in the autumn towards companies and confirms the intention to present tomorrow in the Council of Ministers a constitutional bill for the abolition of the provinces, as announced in Parliament. As for theIMU, the Executive intends carry out the reform by 15 August. These are the main conclusions of the summit held this morning at Palazzo Chigi between the Executive and the group leaders of the majority.

Also present at the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Enrico Letta, were Deputy Prime Minister Angelino Alfano, Ministers Fabrizio Saccomanni and Dario Franceschini and Undersecretary to the Prime Minister Filippo Patroni Griffi. “It went well – commented Letta at the end of the summit -. The Government is moving forward and I reiterated my commitment to greater involvement of the majority parties also in the technical analysis of the individual dossiers".

On the subject of payments to businesses, in the morning Flavio Zanonato, Minister of Economic Development, had expressed some doubts about the possibility of completing the operations within the year. The abolition of the Provinces by bill, on the other hand, will also come in the light of the sentence of the Constitutional Court which established the unconstitutionality of the reform on the reorganization of local entities via decree, as was the case with the Salva-Italia and Spending review provisions of the Monti government.

In general, there will be seven measures that will arrive in the Chambers in July and for rapid approval. The Government has asked the majority parties to "take charge of the provisions and build a path for approval". The next meeting of the Government-majority control room will take place on 18 July.
