The government is grappling with the hypothesis of bringing the retirement age forward, with respect to the current legislation introduced with the Fornero reform. The project being worked on would not change the currently existing pension rules, but would offer an additional tool that could be accessed on a voluntary basis, with the possible involvement of companies, as already happens in the cases provided for by law for larger companies.
"We are working on the technical aspects, it is a complex procedure that can also include the contribution from companies" said the minister of labour, Enrico Giovannini speaking of the plan to avoid the recurrence of the problem of exodus workers. "This tool - added the minister - would help people and businesses (such as smaller ones) that currently cannot use the tools envisaged".
The unions have responded to the government's proposals. “This solution could also contribute to definitively resolving the issue of redundancies. However, the announcements are not enough and we need to move on to the facts”, commented the Cisl confederal secretary Maurizio Petriccioli.
The CGIL underlined how "the rules of the Fornero reform must be changed". “For many expatriates – said the confederal secretary Vera Lamonica – the problem is not solved, and there are very many who are becoming so expatriates. The solution is to introduce into the system a mechanism of real flexibility that does not penalize the workers and produces sustainable and effective rules”.
