Geothermal, Enel Green Power: Pisa completely renewable province

The geothermal plants of Larderello, Val di Cecina and Monteverdi Marittimo ensure the province of Pisa 137,3% of its electricity needs. This was revealed by Enel Green Power which states that the 15 plants in the area produced 2879,8 GWh in 2012, thus making the province completely renewable.

"In Tuscany - continues the company note - the production of electricity from renewable sources, ensured by the Tuscan geothermal plants of Enel Green Power, has exceeded the 26% threshold, settling at around 26,5% as the ability to satisfy regional energy needs out of a total consumption of around 19.964 GWh”.

One of the effects of this production is also the possibility of using steam for thermal purposes, so much so that in Tuscany there are already 5 district heating municipalities thanks to geothermal heat. A success, that of the sector in the region, which extends to tourism, with over 50 thousand visitors a year to the Geothermal Museum, the Etruscan-Roman baths of Sasso Pisano, natural events and the geothermal park of Monterotondo Marittimo.
