On Monday, Generali's board of directors will approve the list to be submitted to the shareholders' meeting on 29 April for the leadership of the company centered on Donnet, while for the Caltagirone list, the Grieco hypothesis vanishes and Costamagna's candidacy for the presidency is advanced

Generali: Grieco fades and Caltagirone focuses on Costamagna for the presidency of the Lion

For the candidacies for the top management of Generali, which will have to be approved by the eagerly awaited assembly of 29 April in Trieste, they are in the final rush. The list of the outgoing board of directors, which has the backing of Mediobanca, is essentially ready and will be the leader Philippe Donnet, who is running again as CEO of the insurance company, and will run as a candidate for the current President of the Italian Stock Exchange, Andrea Sironi, as Chairman of Generali in place of the outgoing Gabriele Galateri. The list will be finalized in the next few hours and presented to the board of directors on Monday 14th which also meets to approve the 2021 group accounts.

On Monday, the CDA list for Donnet to reapply, games still open for Caltagirone

At the beginning of next week, the definition of the main alternative list is also expected, the one that the Roman entrepreneur will present Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone, the first private shareholder after Mediobanca, and which will in all probability also be supported by Leonardo Del Vecchio and the Cassa di Risparmio di Torino Foundation. The market awaits with curiosity to know both the team on the Caltagirone list and the alternative strategy of the shareholders who rebelled against the Mediobanca line based on Donnet's reconfirmation.

The first rumors begin to circulate about the names and the newest one is that Patricia Grieco, president of Monte dei Paschi and Assonime and a great expert on governance, has definitively come out of the race for the presidency of Generali.

There will be no pink presidency

Thus the possibility that for the first time in their history Generali could have a female presidency fades away.

Now Caltagirone would bet for the presidency of Generali on the former President of Cassa depositi e prestiti (Cdp) and well-known international banker, Claudius Costamagna, who, however, is waiting to know the definitive version of the industrial plan and the composition of the whole team proposed by Caltagirone on which, despite the whirlwind of real and presumed names that have circulated in recent weeks, there are still no certainties. The central point, still shrouded in fog, is the choice of the candidate for the role of CEO as an alternative to Donnet: it is on this that the market awaits enlightenment.

What is sure, however, is that time is running out for everyone and that in a few days Caltagirone too will have to raise the curtain on its list and all shareholders, without underestimating the third list that will be presented by Assogestioni, will finally be able to get an idea of who are the real competitors to be voted at the end of April for the leadership of the first Italian insurance company. The battle comes alive.
