Ice cream: Emilia Romagna is the most 'ice cream' region in Italy

The list of the 43 best ice cream parlors awarded by the Gambero Rosso Guide. The best chocolate ice cream is made in Rome

Emilia Romagna is the most 'ice cream' region in Italy. This was decreed by the Gambero Rosso Guide to Italian ice cream parlors which awards the best artisanal ice creams of the peninsula every year, assigning them the maximum score of the Three Cones. Well, those who go to Emilia Romagna have eight chances of coming across an ice cream parlor where they can taste an excellent product. In second place were Piedmont and Lombardy, with 6 brands awarded the Tre Coni, and in third place were Tuscany and Lazio, with five awards.

A total of 43 'honors' were awarded this year by the Gambero Rosso Guide, which evaluated the products of over 350 famous ice cream shops, five more than last year, a sign that the passion for ice cream continues to guide our artisans of the Gelateria in the enhancement of high quality raw materials, in research, in processing. Four regions each received two awards and are Liguria, Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Campania. To close the patrol of the Tre Coni Puglia, Marche, Basilicata, Sardinia, Abruzzo and Sicily with a prize each. Reading the awards that went to the ice cream parlors of Emilia Romagna, it should be emphasized that three are located in Bologna: the Cremeria Santo Stefano, the Cremeria Scirocco and Stefino; one is in Modena, Bloom; one in Parma, Ciacco; one in Reggio Emilia La Cremeria Terminus; one in Salsomaggiore Terme, Sanelli; one in Sant'Agostino The ice cream theatre.

New category this year is the Award for the best chocolate ice cream went to Claudio Torcé of Rome who uses only highly digestible milk and cream, and fructose instead of glucose. Another novelty is the Award for the best gastronomic ice cream which went to Stefano Guizzetti of the Ciacco ice cream parlor in Parma. Finally, the Emerging Gelato Maker Award was assigned to Davide Frainetti of Caffè del Duomo in Terracina, the fourth generation of a family of ice cream makers, who knew how to put the family experience to good use to embark on new and winning paths of taste.

One fact that emerges from the winners of this year's Three Cones is that from the Val d'Aosta to Sicily the new protagonists of the world of ice cream are getting closer and closer to the standards already widespread among restaurateurs and pizza chefs in the sense that ice cream makers aim to find the quality of the products with which to package their ice creams everywhere so that for Vanilla they go to Madagascar, for Pistachio to Bronte or Stigliano in Basilicata, or they look for fruit, vegetables, flowers in their own territory, in the less known but know how to enhance the flavors and values of tradition.

And so, for the use of those with a sweet tooth for ice cream – and in Italy there are many, since we consume 27 kg each, no longer just in the summer but throughout the year, regardless of the season for a round of €2 billion deal – the complete list of award-winning ice cream shops, region by region, to keep in your pocket and consult when the opportunity arises:
