FS strengthens collaboration with India

The technical-specialist collaboration between the FS Italiane Group and Indian Railways is strengthened, to modernize the country's railway network and increase the safety of the infrastructure.

On the occasion of the mission to India of an Italian delegation led by Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni - which will also stop in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar - the Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the FS Italiane Group, Renato Mazzoncini, met in New Delhi representatives of the Ministry of Railways of the Republic of India.

The objective of the visit was to take stock of the progress of the commitments contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in January 2017 by FS Italiane and Indian Railways which envisage: development of railway traffic safety systems, infrastructure diagnostics and training of Indian safety personnel.

"India is a country in continuous growth and has a rapidly expanding railway market, especially after the huge investments by the Indian Government to modernize the existing infrastructures", Mazzoncini underlined. "In line with the international expansion objectives contained in the 2017-2026 Business Plan - he continued - last January we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Railways which has just entered its operational phase". "We will make available the know-how developed with the large infrastructural and technological projects that have modernized Italy - concluded Mazzoncini - to help make the Indian railway network, used every day by 23 million people, safer and more efficient".

Furthermore, Italferr, the engineering company of the FS Italiane Group led by the Chief Executive Officer Carlo Carganico, has opened an operational office in New Delhi, thus becoming a legal entity recognized under Indian law with obvious advantages for the expansion of FS Italiane's business in the Subcontinent.

Italferr is currently engaged in India in the design and construction supervision of the Anji Khad Bridge, a 750-metre long bridge which forms part of the Udhampur – Srinagar – Baramulla railway line. The economic value of Italferr's activities in India is around 10 million euro.
