Luigi Ferraris, managing director of Italian FS Group, spoke at the 39th Anci annual assembly ongoing in Bergamo, talking about physical and digital infrastructure considering them essential to promote the growth of collective mobility.
Improving infrastructure would help connect Italian municipalities, shorten distances, and allow everyone to travel in the most efficient and simple way possible.

“Il our country is represented by thousands of municipalities which are our history, our past, a national cultural heritage huge – said Ferraris – and that to be exploited cannot fail to have infrastructures that connect them physically but also digitally”.

Improving infrastructure is the objective of the ten-year industrial plan

"Our Ten-year industrial plan from 190 billion euros sets us the goal of increase the availability of infrastructure making it possible to increase transport capacity by 20%, favoring the use of the train for both passenger and freight transport. We also aim at redevelop territories and spaces currently not used by our activities, with the aim of having 200 parking spaces near the stations so as to contribute to the intermodality between different means of transport” explained the CEO of FS.

An intelligent and integrated network at the service of sustainable mobility.

Another goal of FS for Ferraris is to develop an intelligent and integrated network at the service of sustainable mobility:
”The goal is replace and innovate the optical fiber that we already have along our lines, thus making it possible to have the availability of the signal on board all trains, including regional and intercity and in over 2000 stations, up to the center of the country. These investments they allow us on the one hand to develop and build digital platforms for promote mobility and collective transport and on the other hand to create aenabling and available infrastructure from which many small villages and rural areas less covered by telecommunications operators will be able to benefit”.
