France, socialists towards an absolute majority. Ballots in two weeks

Yesterday the first round of the French general election was held, which saw the victory of the left four weeks after the triumph of François Hollande. And in particular of the Socialist Party, which, after the ballots, expected in two weeks, should count on an absolute majority in Parliament.

To achieve the objective, the support of some small parties of the left should be sufficient for the socialists, the radical left in primis, and it will not be necessary, however, that of the Greens, who, in any case, are already represented in the new French government. appointed by Hollande after his investiture and chaired by Jean-Marc Ayrault. But, above all, Hollande will not need to extend the parliamentary alliance to the Front de gauche, Jean-Luc Mélenchon's extreme left, an eventuality that would have significantly shifted the axis of his politics towards the left.

According to the latest data, provided by the Ministry of the Interior (and which already concern 35,5 million voters), the left as a whole (including the Front de gauche) obtained 46,77% of the votes against 34,07% of the 'Ump, the centre-right party. The situation has completely reversed compared to 2007 when they were respectively 35,5 and 45,6%. Meanwhile, a clear leap forward for Marine Le Pen's Front National, which went from 4,3% five years ago to the current 13,6%.

However, it is important to see the number of seats that the different formations will obtain after the ballot, which will be held in two weeks. The socialists and their so-called “first circle” allies are expected to win between 283 and 329 seats, according to the latest projections. And, since at least 289 are needed for an absolute majority, they are very likely to hit that target.
