Photojournalism: Naples remembers Andrea Rocchelli

Andrea Rochelli, Italian photojournalist was killed five years ago in Ukraine. These days the trial of his murderers is celebrated in Pavia and in Naples, the Syndicate of Journalists Sugc and Fnsi are organizing a national demonstration on photojournalism. 'Five years without Rocchelli. Manifesto for photojournalism' is the central theme of the meeting that is starting Monday 20 May at the Academy of Fine Arts. A reflection on image journalism which over the years has given Italy recognition and prestige.

There are many Italian photojournalists engaged in the world, many freelancers, to represent difficult realities, devastated environments, conflicts. They work for large agencies and networks despite the invasion of social media and the free photographic testimonials of travelers and bloggers. Photojournalists are a special category, those who "seize the moment" to make people understand without words. To put readers, the public, in front of things that others will tell with words. And the event in Naples is divided into three moments. The exhibition 'Voices of the voiceless' with photos of Rocchelli taken in the war territories and that 'Camorra, the voices inside', by Stefano Renna and Marco Salvia. The two authors present a Naples that is the scene of an infinite war. A living but wounded city, in the throes of a crisis of values and perhaps of humanity. The two exhibitions will be open to the public for ten days. The third moment is the preview of the documentary made by the Rai journalist, Loris Mazzetti, dedicated to Rocchelli and which Rai will broadcast on June 9 on Raitre in the program 'The hour of legality'.

A decalogue for image journalism will also be presented in the halls of the Academy. A manifesto - explained the leaders of the press union who will be present in Naples on Monday - for a profession that has been overwhelmed by the advent of digital technology and social networks, but which represents a primary and formidable resource, indispensable for the survival of journalism same. The association 'Mediterranean photographs between land and sea' and the 'FotoEma' agency have collaborated with the journalists.
