VAT numbers: 15% flat tax by the summer

With the new decree which should see the light before the summer break, the Government also aims to raise the limit for access to the flat-rate tax regime from 50 to 100 thousand euros in annual turnover

VAT numbers: 15% flat tax by the summer

The first piece of the flat tax will concern VAT numbers: over one million professionals and SMEs who will be allowed to access the 15% flat-rate scheme. Treasury technicians are working on the project and the League aims to bring the text to the Council of Ministers even before the mid-August summer break.

In detail, the idea is to raise the threshold for access to the advantageous regime much beyond the limit of 65 euros in annual revenues imposed by Brussels. The government is aiming for a derogation from Europe – already granted to countries such as France and Romania – which will allow the bar to be raised from the current 50 to 100 euros.

The intervention could be part of the next decree being prepared by the Government, which should see the light by the end of July.

According to Massimo Bitonci, undersecretary for the economy, the flat tax for VAT numbers will have an important anti-evasion effect, because it will push many small and medium-sized enterprises to get out of the underground.

In parallel, the Government is also planning a tightening of sanctions, so as to avoid avoidance and evasion aimed at playing on the limits of turnover. But for this further intervention, it will probably still take months.
