FISHTUNA: In Favignana a festival between tuna and traps, sustainability and tourism development

Tuna and tuna fishing, sustainability and local development, the epic of the Florios and "slow" tourism, food destination as a tourist attraction: FISHTUNA, a festival on traditions linked to sustainable fishing, opens tomorrow in Favignana under the banner of these watchwords of the bluefin tuna whose mission is a project to bring back the tuna and tuna traps of Favignana, as a distinctive feature of the history of Sicily, to raise public awareness of the value of a tradition, but not least of a social economy, which risks ending inexorably bringing with it only memories.

A widespread festival that will involve the Egadi islands from 1 to 5 September with a full program of meetings, shows, workshops, masterclasses, cooking shows, but also naturalistic hiking, guided diving, mountain biking at Punta Faraglione in Favignana, Punta Mugnone and Secca del Cretazzo in Marettimo, Capo Grosso in Levanzo to discover all the beauties of the Egadi islands and the many gourmet attractions.

This year Fishtuna celebrates a twinning with Spain, the guest country of this edition, which thanks to a collaboration with the Spanish Tourist Board of Milan will see the participation of Lara Lopez, the Asturian chef, awarded in 2020 as Spanish chef of the 'year.

The absolute protagonist is bluefin tuna, the island's pride, to arouse the attention of a vast public on the importance of recovering tuna traps, not to place them in the inglorious niche of folkloristic representations, but to imagine them with a different idea of recovery, transforming them into a true cultural tourist product in a logic of seasonal adjustment. But the productions and typical products of the archipelago are also protagonists such as bottarga, blue fish, capers, garlic, legumes, and the new productions of tropical and exotic fruits that have found in Sicily the climatic conditions for a successful production . All topics around which talk shows, book presentations and culinary dialogues with local and non-local chefs will be developed.
