Fincantieri sets course on megayachts

The Fincantieri group is working on a partnership with the historic yacht broker Camper & Nicholsons to enhance its presence in the sector. The news was anticipated today by MF.

The last really important order in the sector, writes the newspaper, which the company led by the managing director Giuseppe Bono entered only in 2005, arrived thanks to the intermediation of Alex Lees Buckley of Camper & Nicholsons, who followed everything the design and construction process of Ocean Victory, a 140-metre megayacht, the largest ever built in Italy and among the ten largest in the world.

The development of megayachts joins the other major project initiated by the Fincantieri top management. Among the most important initiatives of recent months there is in fact the memorandum signed with Carnival and China CSSC for a possible joint venture for the Chinese market, where no cruise ships are currently being built. The project would not have been shelved at all: to follow it more closely in the coming months, perhaps as early as September, the group could even open an office in China. A significant step which, if it materializes in the launch of the project, would mark an important stage in the company's development.
