Fincantieri, Bono: "We are building ships without crew"

They are not large ships and “we are already at an advanced stage”, announced Bono on the day in which the assembly decided to confirm him at the helm of the group together with Giuseppe Massolo, who will continue to hold the position of president.

Fincantieri is building an unmanned vessel: this was announced by the managing director of the giant controlled by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Giuseppe Bono, on the day in which the shareholders' meeting decided to confirm this to the group guide together with Giuseppe Massolo, who will continue to hold the position of president.

The assembly also decided that there will be 10 members of the board of directors and will remain in office for 3 financial years, those of 2019, 2020 and 2021. The deadline is set for December 31, 2021. Massolo and Bono were elected with 98,14% of the share capital. 0,82% against, 0,26% abstained and 0,78% did not vote. Board members will earn 50 euros a year.

In the same context, the budget 2018closed with profits of 277 million.

During the shareholders' meeting, Bono announced an important innovation from an industrial point of view: “We are working on small vessels without personnel on board, and we are already at an advanced stage”, revealed the manager who added that Fincantieri is “building electric propulsion ferries”, which can be used “for short journeys, where there are nearby islands. We are developing the batteries, which are replaced at the port of destination. An order – he specified – is already the MSC Yacht Club”.

From a financial point of view, Bono recalled that in the last 4 years the company grew 9 percent. "We have a workload of 34 billion euros, almost 2 points of GDP, more than the entire Italian maritime sector according to Censis, equal to 33 billion", he said.

“Last year saw a confirmation of the solidity and excellence of our group and we saw consolidated leadership and credibility in our business sectors. We have 116 ships in portfolio up to 2017. Revenues are 5,5 billion, while the operating profit is 69 million euros. The tons we are processing have doubled in 2 years and will double again in the next 2. We have achieved the objectives of the business plan. – added the manager – We are also at the closing of the joint venture with Chantier de l'Atlantique, which must pass the scrutiny of the Antitrust”.

Speaking of the remuneration policy towards shareholders, Bono replied to a question asked by a shareholder: "We could give a higher dividend, but our plan envisages investments of 7/800 million, all financed by the company, therefore a large part of the cash flow is destined for this”.
