Zest Airways, the airline of Filipino beverage mogul Alfred Yao has plans to fly to the Middle East, home to a large Filipino expat community.

According l 'Inquirer, documents from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) would show that the company has made an official request to make connections with Saudi Arabia. There are currently no connections between the two countries, although Philippine Airlines sells code-share tickets to Abu Dhabi.

est Airways currently operates a fleet of nine Airbus A320s and one Airbus A319, each of which has a four-hour flight range, which is insufficient to cover the distance to the Middle East. In the past, the airline has said it plans to lease brand new Boeing 777s as part of an expansion plan. Zest Air's international flights include services to South Korea, China and Taiwan. Aside from Zest Airways, Cebu Pacific would also have plans to cover the Middle East. The company recently applied for permits to fly to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The plan is to start in 2013, after delivery of the four Airbus A330s it has ordered.
