FCA sinks due to Dieselgate (-16,1%) and overwhelms the Stock Exchange, but Ubi booms (+9,1%)

The accusation by the American authorities of having manipulated the data on the emissions of 104 cars sinks FCA and Exor and drags down Piazza Affari (-1,7%) – Immediate reply from Marchionne – Mediaset and Leonardo are also down sharply – Ubi's Sprint after the purchase for just one euro of three Good Banks – Green light for the Unicredit capital increase

Thud of Piazza Affari, which closes at -1,69%, last in Europe, in the wake of the great collapse of FCA -16,14%. At the origin of the cataclysm was the indiscretion, later confirmed, according to which the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) notified Fiat Chrysler Automobiles of the accusation of having used software for diesel emissions exceeding the legal limits on 100 trucks and SUVs produced in the 2014, 2015, 2016. Securities suspended on Wall Street, due to an unstoppable hemorrhage, even though the company promises to collaborate with the authorities and decisively contests the allegations made. With the car manufacturer, the entire team crashes on the Milan Stock Exchange: Exor -9,36%, Ferrari -2,22%.

The turning point comes like a bombshell in the mid-afternoon, in a sleepy climate, with the Ftse Mib in fractional decline, more or less like the other European lists, which then close in no particular order: Madrid -0,01%; London +0,03%; Frankfurt -1,07%, Paris -0,51%. New York immediately positions itself in negative territory, oriented towards discontent from yesterday's disappointing press conference by Donald Trump, awaiting today's by Janet Yellen.

In Milan today there are few titles that toast, but one out of all there is and it is called Ubi Banca, +9,12%, after the formulation of the binding offer for the purchase of three of the four Good Banks (Banca Marche, Etruria and CariChieti), which provides for the sale of non-performing loans for 2,2 billion from the institutions and a capital increase of 400 million. With the integration, Ubi estimates a net profit for 2020 of 1,2 billion euros from the 0,9 billion previously envisaged in the 2019/2020 plan and promises a dividend for 2016 at the same level as the previous year. Other banks are down. Among these we point out Unicredit, -1,75%, on the day of the approval of the 13 billion capital increase by the shareholders. The transaction could be completed within the first quarter of 2017, subject to obtaining the necessary authorisations.

On the other hand, almost all the utilities are in tune, A2a at +1,35%, Terna at +0,42%, Italgas +0,32%.
