FCA continues to examine the potential separation of the subsidiary Magneti Marelli, but for the moment does not intend to give further indications: "FCA does not intend to make further communications on the matter until a final decision has been taken,” explained a statement released by the company on Wednesday evening.
The company's board expects to examine the options for this transaction in detail “in the second quarter of 2018, concurrently with the examination of the Group's industrial plan for 2018-2022. In the meantime, management will continue its assessments on the possible structures of the transaction in order to maximize value for FCA's shareholders".
In the note, the car company also specifies that “there is no guarantee that the examination of the potential separation of Magneti Marelli results in the decision to undertake the operation or that said operation, once initiated, be completed".
In short, FCA suggests that the decision should arrive by June, as also confirmed by various press rumors, according to which Alfa Romeo and Maserati will not be subject to any spin-off, while the CEO of FCA Sergio Marchionne, when he presents the industrial plan on June 1st, could exclusively announce the spin-off, in fact, of Magneti Marelli. The operation could cost between 4 and 5 billion. The latest rumors were published by Corriere della Sera.
The FCA stock is among the worst of the Fste Mib at the opening of the session. Last February 16, when the first rumors about the possible FCA-Magneti Marelli spin-off came out, the stock had gained more than 2%. Today, however, the reaction is currently chilly, with the stock losing almost one and a half percentage points to 17,33 euros per share, around 10.
Finally, it should be added that on the occasion of the quarterly review of the indices in March, the FCA will be included in FTSE Eurotop 100 starting on the 19th of the month.
