Eurozone: PMI index drops below 50 points again, worse than expected

Economic activity in the euro area worsens again in February (and against forecasts). According to the survey of procurement managers of Eurozone companies, the Purchasing managers index showed a decline to 49,7 points, from 50,4 points to which it had risen in January, according to the preliminary estimate released by Markit Economics.

50 points is the demarcation threshold between expansion and contraction of the activity of companies in the euro area, and marked a weaker value than expected: on average, analysts expected the indicator to hold.
