Eni: new natural gas field discovered in Area 4 of Mozambique

The Italian energy giant announces the discovery of a new off-shore natural gas deposit in Area 4 of Mozambique, in which it operates with a 70% stake - The field's capacity, estimated at at least 283 billion cubic meters of gas, increases the total potential of the area up to 1133 billion cubic metres.

Il Mozambique, and specifically the offshore Area 4, in which Eni operates with a 70% stake, flanked by the Portuguese Galp, the Korean Kogas and the Mozambican ENH (all with 10%), is proving to be a veritable bottomless pit of fuel.

A little over a month since the last discovery, already defined as "giant" in the press release released at the time (it was 15 last February) by the company, in fact, today Eni gives the announcement of the discovery, also "giant", of a new natural gas well in the area, carried out as part of the Mamba North East 1 exploration prospect.

The new field, which is located about fifty kilometers from the coast of Capo Delgado, thus joins the two previously discovered, Mamba Sud 1, indicated months ago as the largest field ever discovered by ENI, and Mamba Nord 1, thus increasing, with its 283 billion cubic meters of gas, the total potential of Area 4 from the previous 850 billion cubic meters to the current 1133.

The well was drilled in 1.848 meters of water, according to the press release, and reached a total depth of 4.560 meters, encountering 240 meters of gas mineralization in multiple reservoirs of Oligocene and Eocene age.

Within the document, Eni, whose share on the Stock Exchange gained 0,84% in the late morning, announced the obvious intention to continue exploration in the area by drilling at least 4 other wells in adjacent structures.
