Eni (Bellodi) worried about natural gas supplies

Methane prices in Italy are lower than the European average, said the executive vice president of institutional relations of the Italian hydrocarbon giant, heard in the Senate prices commission - Eni, however, is concerned about the moratorium, established by law, which inhibits the exploitation of gas fields in territorial waters.

Eni (Bellodi) worried about natural gas supplies

Concern for natural gas supplies: it was ENI who expressed it, in the Senate price commission, where Leonardo Bellodi, executive vice president of institutional relations of the body, intervened on the occasion of the survey on the dynamics of prices and tariffs and on the impact on citizens.

On the gas front, Bellodi pointed the finger in particular at the so-called "moratorium", provided for by law, which inhibits the identification and exploitation of gas deposits in territorial waters. "The persistence of these constraints makes it extremely difficult to overcome dependence on foreign countries for natural gas supplies", remarked Bellodi. And in any case, still on the subject of gas, the Eni representative highlighted that the cost of gas incurred by small businesses, based on data from the Electricity and Gas Authority, is lower in Italy than in other European countries, such as France and Germany, both net and gross of the tax component. Vice versa, as regards domestic consumption, Italy maintains a competitive advantage over other European countries "only if the weight of the tax component in the composition of the gas price is not taken into account".

Tax component which, as is well known, also weighs down the price of automotive fuel. And on this front the opportunity was served by all'Eni to reiterate their own proposals to improve network efficiency, intervening on three main directions: 1) the increase in the self-service delivery method, 2) the development of non-oil activities, 3) the maintenance of the "served islands". "The implementation of these interventions - remarked Bellodi - could help reduce fuel prices, in the interest not only of consumers but also of the operators themselves".
