Enel-Tim: agreement for the transmission of electricity consumption data

The telecommunications operator will make its mobile network available to the group active in the production and distribution of electricity - Through the Tim network, Enel will be able to improve the transmission of data relating to the measurements of energy consumption from the meters - Satisfaction from the administrators delegates Francesco Starace and Marco Patuano.

Enel e Tim have signed an agreement whereby the telecommunications operator will make theirs available mobile network to transmit only the data relating to the measurements of the energy consumption of the electronic meters. The project will lead to the improvement of the overall performance of data management and the optimization of costs related to the process.

Tim will make its latest generation mobile network available which will allow the IP (Internet Protocol) system to ensure a high level of reliability and data connectivity for the supply of public utility services. Such systems will ensure a more effective flow of information, allowing more efficient management of the measurement of the electrical system remotely.

The initiative strengthens the collaboration activities already started between Enel and the Telecom Italia Group, in order to identify possible synergies between the TLC and electricity infrastructures, with the aim of creating sustainable development models and increasingly innovative telecommunications architectures able to offer advanced services.

Thanks to the agreement signed with Tim, Enel intends to obtain from the Ministry for Economic Development the necessary Virtual Telephone Operator (MVNO) license for "Machine to Machine (M2M)" data transmission, having ownership of the new SIM cards and directly managing their 'installation.

“The transmission of billions of data to Enel's central system every year makes our distribution network one of the most advanced in the world,” he said. Francesco Starace, CEO and general manager of Enel – This agreement, which is not aimed in any way at bringing the Enel Group back into the TLC business, aims to further improve the internal management of our customers' consumption data, with more innovative and efficient systems”.

“We are very satisfied to collaborate with Enel for this important technological and service evolution, he declared Marco Patuano, CEO of Telecom Italia – "This agreement once again confirms how the big players recognize the quality and reliability of our networks and the cutting-edge of our platforms to support innovative solutions for the country's digital development in the field of Public Utilities and Smart Energy”.
