This work, in four illustrated volumes, tells the 'fortune' of the writer of adventure novels Emilio Salgari, trying to demythologize an extraordinary cultural phenomenon. Trace the path through all aspects of its popularity: the beginnings in print, editions, illustrators, translations, adaptations (theatre, cinema, comics). The first volume covers the period of Salgari's life; with new information on editorial relationships, it explains the sources, development and richness of Salgarian work together with its reception.
