Elections, Sala against Parisi is the Milan of the Expo against that of fear

In Milan, the consensus gap between the center-left and center-right mayoral candidate seems to be narrowing, but while Beppe Sala has yet to give impetus to the young, optimistic, pragmatic, open and global Milan that thanks to him expressed itself at the Expo, Parisi he has to deal with his supporters - from the League to the Brothers of Italy as well as Forza Italia and Formigoni - who represent a city closed in on itself and who will weigh on him like ballast

Elections, Sala against Parisi is the Milan of the Expo against that of fear

According to the latest polls relating to the election of the mayor of Milan, the gap between Beppe Sala and Stefano Parisi it would be shrinking. For Ipsos it would already be less than two points, while for Swg it would still be between four and five. In any case, thanks to an even too much trumpeted resemblance and interchangeability between the two, the tendency would seem to be that of alignment.

This is undoubtedly due to the fact that Parisi's candidacy appears to have "miraculously" (at least up to now) united the centre-right, silencing every discordant voice, while Sala's resounding victory in the centre-left primaries does not seem to have been enough to heal all differences in that area. So much so that, apart from the two or three competing lists, that "orange", who also sides with him, does so with the declared intention of influencing him from the left.

The result is that while Parisi can appear at the same time as a demiurge and as a moderate with respect to his own area, Sala appears instead still too concerned with keeping his own together, leaning to the left and thus obscuring his own moderate and pragmatic image.

Consequently, while Parisi is filling up with "his own", and thus growing in the polls, Sala seems to have somewhat lost contact with Milan, which has identified with him thanks to Exhibition but now it is difficult to identify with him as a candidate for mayor, and therefore stagnates in the polls.

That said, we're certainly not talking about a system communicating vessels. Parisi has most likely exhausted his reservoir, while Sala just needs to reconnect with his own with greater conviction, i.e. with that young, optimistic, pragmatic, open and global Milan, but at the same time proud of its identity, which with Expo gave the better than himself and now he wants to move forward. And with whom if not with him?

The League of Salvini in fact, with its message of closure and fear, it is the exact opposite of the new Milan that looks to Sala, as are Fratelli d'Italia and Forza Italia itself, which closed with Milan in 2013, when it thought that demonstrating against the Palace of Justice was equivalent to carrying out a coherent government action to reform the justice, in fact. And something could perhaps be added on the inglorious conclusion of Formigoni's long political season.

In any case, the conclusion is clear: for Sala, "his" people are an opportunity still to be exploited, if he is able to do so, for Parisi, on the other hand, while acknowledging his undoubted political ability in putting them back together, "his" are already, and will increasingly become, a ballast
