Energy efficiency, Enea: 2 billion saved

Thanks to energy efficiency policies, Italy has saved money in recent years 2 billion euros in terms of reducing oil and gas imports and was able to avoid the emission of 18 million tons of CO2. This is stated by the president of theAeneas Federico Testa, during the conference "Environmental policies for sustainable development after Paris 2015", as part of the PA Forum underway in Rome.

“It is therefore necessary – continued Testa – to continue in this direction and be able to seize important opportunities such as i European funds 2014-2020 which can make an essential contribution to the achievement of environmental objectives after COP21, but also to economic recovery considering the size of the resources at stake".

Furthermore, according to the president of the Agency, "An innovative project for the redevelopment of urban areas" is needed. “ENEA – he added – in its role as National Agency for Energy Efficiency, aims to support public decision-makers in the preparation of operational measures for the promotion of energy efficiency improvement interventions, the monitoring of national of savings and the definition of application scenarios”.

According to ENEA estimates it is possible to reduce by more than 40% the consumption of the most inefficient buildings, generating savings of 73 million euros, implementing interventions on the building envelope and systems, but also a change in behavior in energy use.

To increase savings, Enea has developed a public lighting management system called Public Energy Living Lab (Pell), which makes it possible to plan efficiency improvements on the 11 million light points in Italy. The system allows for savings of up to around 400 million euros a year.

Skin, whose objective is to make available a punctual, standardized and strategic data collection system to know the state of the plants and evaluate redevelopment plans, is currently being tested in twenty Italian municipalities. PELL is an operational tool conceived within the framework of Lumière.

Furthermore, as part of the Forum Pa, the National Agency for Energy Efficiency also presented the logo of Italy campaign in Class A, a stylized hand symbolizing the common commitment to achieve energy efficiency objectives, and illustrated the Intelligent Energy journalism competition (announcement available on the Enea website) , also open in some categories to non-journalists and under 25s, to reward the best articles, videos, commercials, photos, illustrations and radio-TV reports on energy efficiency.
