Contemporary design, the textile door is back in trend: the Dooor case

The textile door is once again a versatile and innovative element for contemporary design – Dooor is a new brand that blends functionality and aesthetics of this architectural element

Contemporary design, the textile door is back in trend: the Dooor case

Dooor is the project of a young entrepreneur who decides to renew the family business founded by his grandfather 60 years ago and which has always been focused on the production of textile doors. Having become iconic of the design of the 60s and introduced within the projects of the major Italian and international designers, the textile door returns to being a versatile and innovative element for the contemporary design.

Now in its third generation, it is the founder's grandson, Francesco Mascarucci, who innovates the family's expertise with additions of stylistic and technological innovation, calling the Milanese studio Calvi Brambilla to the artistic direction. There Door collection maintains the functional characteristics of the textile door intact, however expanding its aesthetic horizon thanks to new printing techniques and the use of highly technological materials for the covering. The result is an architectural element with an essential style that enhances spaces based on shapes, materials and fabrics, deeply connoting the environments in which it is inserted based on the intervention of Italian design and taste.

Contemporary design: Dooor at Maison&Object 2022

From 24 to 28 March, at the Parisian fair dedicated to Maison&Object design and décor, ICE – Agency for the promotion abroad and internationalization of Italian companies – also brought Dooor to the center of the installation “The moon”, inserted in the context of a choral participation of the made in Italy.

The installation "La Lune" is inspired by the novelistic image of the philosopher Bruno Latour on contemporary space. It tells of a traveler who looks to the Moon, as the only point in nature to look at without feeling discouraged for having caused an environmental disaster: it is far away, independent and too high to be affected. It is based on a midnight blue textile material, alienating and apparently cold, but with a more welcoming and elegant side. The duality is made possible on the one hand thanks to the LE-VI BLU 8001 eco-leather finish, waterproof, fireproof and resistant to microorganisms, and on the other thanks to a highly insulating FL-ST 5126 velvet finish.

Dooor, the textile door in homage to Gianfranco Frattini

The most recent history of Dooor, present at the most important world trade fairs, tells of a now international journey, with creations in prestigious locations. And one of the most successful is the one inspired by one of the myths in the history of design, Gianfranco Frattini. From his archive Torri Lana and Dooor have drawn inspiration for a series of precious and highly topical wool doors; the checkered, dice, interweaving and inlay motifs enhance the entire system of the mobile wall and at the same time make it dynamic thanks to the optical effects that are back in fashion after the triumph in the 80s.

The creation of the dressing room designed by Park Associati for "Entry prohibited" at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan on the occasion of Design Week 2021 is suggestive: the designers have created an atmosphere where light and shadow accompany the different moments of the artists , divided between the stage and the hushed and penumbra of the dressing room. Not only design for the Dooor mobile doors because the innovations have focused in particular on comfort to ensure privacy and a single large living space in just a few seconds.
