Decadence Berlusconi: tonight the vote of the Senate, the Knight moves the square

Voting day has arrived. Today, starting at 17, the Senate Hall will express itself on the forfeiture of Silvio Berlusconi from Parliament. A provision that should come in application of the Severino law, after the definitive four-year sentence for tax fraud received by the Knight in the context of the Mediaset trial. The forfeiture will cause the former prime minister to lose his parliamentary immunity, which – after sanctioning yesterday the passage of Forza Italia to the opposition – has chosen to react by mobilizing the square.

One is expected for today in Rome a manifestation has been conducted "peaceful" which, according to Berlusconi, "will be only the beginning", because "the citizens are aware of what is happening and are worried: they are not doing it to defend me, but they care about the future of the country and the our freedom". The Knight also spoke of "justicialist drift".

The reaction of the Democratic Party was immediate: “Invoking the square against a sentence issued by a court represents a breaking point with the history of the Republic and with our democratic system – said the party's justice director Danilo Leva -. It is a strategy that aims to produce tension by wearing down the country and which makes Berlusconi increasingly anti-state. Faced with these words, democratic political forces have a duty to react by building a levee in defense of the institutions. By now it is clear that to escape the law he is ready to set fire to Italy. Giving in to his blackmail and threats from him would create a devastating precedent for the very stability of democratic institutions ”.
