Crédit Agricole is a French cooperative banking group. Is formed from Credit Agricole SA, the main company that coordinates strategies and from a network of 2.447 local coffers e 39 regional coffers. They form a three-level pyramid structure.
The 39 regional banks, through the holding company SAS Rue de la Boétie, hold the majority stake in Crédit Agricole SA The local banks, on the other hand, hold the majority of the capital of the 39 regional coffers.
The members, around 10 million, hold the capital of the 2.447 local banks in the form of shares and designate their representatives each year in the form of administrators.
Credit Agricole has 51 million customers distributed in 47 countries. It has 141.000 collaborators and 30.000 administrators of local and regional funds.
It is the first bank in Europe by retail banking revenues and the third in France by market capitalization.
Since 2001 Crédit Agricole has been listed on the Paris Stock Exchange, in the main index CAC 40. It is also listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.
La SAS Rue La Boétie holds 56,6%, of Credit Agricole SA and is the main shareholder of the group.

Economic and financial analysis of the company
Credit Agricole was founded in 1894 following the law of November 5, 1894 on the statute of local mutual funds in France. The first coffers of the local elites were created, made up of agronomists, professors and owners, while farmers were still in the minority. In 1899, the State created the Regional Banks (second level of the Credit Agricole structure).
The pyramid of the structure was completed in 1920 when a central public body was established, theOffice Nationale du Crédit Agricole, then renamed Caisse Nationale de Crédit Agricole (CNCA). In 1988 the institute was taken over by the regional banks, acquiring independence from the state. Thus it took on its current structure and the name of Crédit Agricole SA
In the following years, Credit Agricole expands its activities, operating beyond the field of agricultural credit.

In 2001, Crédit Agricole decided to list on the Paris Stock Exchange.
In 2003 he took control of Crédit Lyonnais, a major French bank.

In 2010 Crédit Agricole, together with Societe Generale, gives life to Amundi, one of the leading savings managers in Europe. Acquires from Intesa Sanpaolo 80% of the Savings Bank of La Spezia and 96 branches.
To simplify and lighten the structure, the Eureka project. Among the simplification measures is the sale by Credit Agricole of its 25% stake in the regional banks for an amount of 18 billion.
In 2016, following a rebranding operation, the Crédit Agricole Italia Banking Group, which comprises Cariparma (parent company), FriulAdria, Carispezia, Crédit Agricole Leasing Italia, Crédit Agricole Group Solutions.
Its expansion continues in Italy with the acquisition of 130% of the share capital of Cassa di Risparmio di Rimini, Cassa di Risparmio di Cesena and Cassa di Risparmio di San Miniato which will be merged and absorbed by Credit Agricole Cariparma.
At the end of November 2020, he launched a takeover bid to acquire 100% of Valtellinese credit. The operation ends in April 2021 with theacquisition of 91,17% of the capital.
