SpesaSuspesa.org transforms the noble and ancient rite of the "suspended coffee" of Naples into an innovative project that digitize the flow of donations and involves citizens, municipalities, local non-profit organizations and food businesses.
Although the most dramatic phase of the Covid19 epidemic is behind us, the situation that Italy is experiencing is far from rosy: during the lockdown, 59% of food companies suffered a drop in production with peaks of up to 30% less than the norm. And about 60% of companies in the sector estimate a decrease in turnover which could amount to more than 20%. Similarly, the population has been hit hard: there are over 40.000 families at risk of poverty, 105% more than a few months ago. Now more than ever it is essential to intervene to help our economy restart.
SpesaSospesa.org was born not as a simple fundraising campaign to donate food to those who have none but as a real virtuous circle, a circular solidarity project to share energy and resources with those who need it most. An initiative to support those in difficulty, as well as a model that is destined to work in the future as well. You can contribute to SpesaSospesa.org with free cash donations through the CharityStars fundraising platform.
Sorgenia is also participating in the initiative, transforming the value of the last bill of each customer who decides to join the initiative into a donation and involving employees, who have already contributed 20 thousand euros. Food companies, distribution chains and local producers will be able to donate surplus or expiring products, and sell their products at discounted prices thus contributing to fight against food waste.
The cash donations will be delivered to the Municipalities or associations present in the area and will be used to buy food at discounted prices from the participating food companies. The network of accredited non-profit associations will then distribute them to those in need. The donation flows will be registered and managed through the innovative Regusto food sharing platform; thanks to blockchain technology integrated, all transactions, movements and destinations of food will be tracked in total transparency.
SpesaSospesa.org is an initiative promoted by the Lab00 Onlus Committee, founded by Francesco Lasaponara, startup consultant with a social vocation, by the actor and well-known TV face David Devenire, by the CEO of Regusto Marco Raspati, da Flavio Barcaccia – CEO of Nexma and by Happy DiLuca, Synesthesia Business Developer. SpesaSospesa.org was born and developed during a series of zoom videoconferences and quickly involved numerous important partners, receiving adhesions from public administrations.
The Municipalities of Naples, Perugia, Alessandria, Catanzaro and Afragola were the first in Italy to embrace the project, having already given their patronage to the initiative, included by the Municipality of Turin in the Torino City Love portal among the actions of solidarity and innovation for the area.
