Concorto Film Festival 2016: 60 titles in review

There are about sixty titles in one of the most important short film festivals in Italy, scheduled for its 15th edition between Piacenza and nearby Pontenure. There were 3.300 requests from almost 80 countries to participate in the CONCORTO FILM FESTIVAL, which presents a preview for Italy of The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards, an episodic film created by James Franco, with Matthew Modine, Natalie Portman, Kate Mara and Modern Family star Rico Rodriguez.

About 3.300 requests for participation by directors from almost 80 different countries of the world; around sixty titles that passed the selection and were admitted to compete for the Golden Donkey awarded by the festival jury to the best film, the Special Jury Prize, the Audience Prize and the "L'Onda" Prize, determined by the special youth jury made up of 18-21 year olds.

Also this year, alongside the main competition, there will be several parallel reviews. First of all those dedicated to the cinematography of two countries, Greece and Cuba, which are experiencing a period of great artistic vitality just as they are being crossed by deep tensions and radical changes. Concorto will propose an approach to these realities by giving space and voice to young contemporary directors from the two countries. But there will also be insights into specific genres and languages: with the Nordic Madness cycle to investigate the more eccentric aspects of Scandinavian cinema and the retrospective that will tell the story of the Bonobo Studio, a Croatian collective that represents one of the most interesting European experiences in the field of animation .
The long-distance relationship with the American filmmaker James Franco will also continue, who will make his contribution to the Concorto with the Italian premiere of his The Heyday of the Insensitive Bastards, an episodic film built through the assembly of various short films made within the course of cinema held by Franco himself at UCLA and which see among the various protagonists Hollywood stars such as Natalie Portman, Matthew Modine and Kate Mara, as well as the very young Rico Rodriguez, one of the protagonists of the sit-com Modern Family.

Also confirmed this year is the tradition that calls for an author's signature for the festival posters: to interpret the theme of the donkey, symbol of the festival, in 2016 is the illustrator Stefano Faravelli.
For the entire duration of the festival, workshops will be scheduled with the British filmmaker Tomás Sheridan, with the photographers Tano D'Amico and Massimo Bersani, and with the director Marina Spada. Massimo Bersani.
The program of collateral events is also rich, with concerts by Gerardo Fornaro "Gedron", Luca Sigurtà and the final show by the Mexican musician and artist MURCOF.
