EU Commission: taxation on labor in Italy the highest in Europe

The tax burden on labor in Italy is confirmed as the highest in Europe, according to the EU Commission - The increase in taxes on consumption has not been compensated by an adequate decrease in taxation on labor - The government is trying to lighten the Irap for the weakest categories.

La labor taxation in Italy remains firm in its sad record, conquered in 2009 and reaffirmed in the following years, confirming itself the highest in Europe, according to what was stated by Marco Fantini, head of the unit of analysis on taxation in the EU executive, today in Brussels, alongside the presentation of a report on the evolution of taxation in EU member states.

Fantini then spoke of measures adopted by the government last December which sought to lighten the IRAP for the weakest categories through the increase in taxes on consumption. In the report of the EU Commission, however, it is noted that the increase in indirect taxation on consumption e on other sources of revenue a proportional decrease in the tax burden on labor is not paidconsidered as a whole.
