Even a giant like Coca-Cola is beginning to feel the effects of the Covid crisis, and workers are often paying the consequences. The company of the world's most popular carbonated drink has in fact communicated that will leave 2.200 employees at home worldwide, of which 1.200 in the United States and 500 in the Atlanta headquarters alone, where almost 5.000 people currently work. Compared to Coca-Cola's workforce globally, the announced cut concerns almost 3% of the total: total employees are approximately 87.000.
The corporate restructuring had already been feared last summer and is now becoming a reality: the sharp decline in the activity of bars and restaurants in almost all the world makes it necessary. The crisis therefore forces Coca-Cola, according to the evaluations of its board, to cut costs in 2021 by between 350 and 550 million dollars, the Georgia company specified. Coca-Cola's revenues literally collapsed in the second quarter of this year (when half the planet was under lockdown) and didn't even recover in the summer quarter: sales -16% from April to June, but still -4% between July and September.
