Cinema: Eastwood on FIRST Arte with Richard Jewell

The timeless Clint Eastwood strikes again. Once again, as often happens to him, the doyen of the stars and stripes cinema tells a story that really happened: the incredible story of Richard jewell, a US citizen who almost thwarted an attack during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and who nevertheless ended up being accused of terrorism.

In fact, initially Richard Jewell, this is the name of the protagonist and also of the film, is acclaimed as a hero, but shortly after instead thanks to the FBI who is groping in the dark he is first suspected and then investigated as a possible perpetrator of the attack. The film is reviewed on FIRST Art by Patrizio Rossano, who, while recognizing the excellent reconstruction, does not assign a very high score: the film is not one destined to remain in history, even if it turns the spotlight on a terrible media and human story, which recalls the Italian case of Enzo Tortora .

“This film – says Rossano – is a gigantic indictment against 'the two strongest powers in the world: the United States Government and the press', as Jewell's defense attorney puts it. There is no need to bother with dramatic events that have occurred on the international scene to remind us of this: just think of the war in Iraq”.
