China, preferred destination for foreign investors

China remains the top destination for foreign investments, in a period in which the Asian country maintains many competitive margins, but other emerging countries, such as India and Brazil, are catching up. An expanding domestic market, improved competition, technological talent and favorable tax policies along with low labor costs are among Beijing's major attractions according to a study released by the China Development Research Foundation and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). In a survey of 227 chief executives of multinational groups, 70% of those who have started business with China said they are in favor of increasing exposure over the next five years.

However, the companies interviewed stated that they consider increased transparency a vital element in creating an environment of real competition. While China's position remains unchanged, other emerging countries have gained ground since last year. Among these India, Brazil and Turkey together with a group of African countries have approached the Chinese giant. The latest available official data indicates that foreign direct investment in China amounted to $8,21 billion in February, up 6,3% year on year.
