Round figure for Chrysler, which reaches the 50th monthly increase in sales. What has just closed was the best May for the Detroit giant since 2007, with registrations up 17%, to 194.421 units, from 166.596 in the same period last year. The Jeep, Dodge, Ram Truck and Fiat brands also rose.
“In May, with five sales weekends and the Memorial Day holiday – said Reid Bigland, sales manager for the United States – sales of Jeep SUVs and Ram pickups remained at high levels. Jeep posted an all-time sales record for the third consecutive month. The Dodge Dart also set an all-time record."
Considering the individual brands, the sales of Chrysler they dropped by 22% (from 29.070 to 22.592 cars; in the first five months of the year -14% to 117042); those of Dodge they grew by 3%, the best May since 2007 (from 56.047 to 57.923 units; in the first five months of the year -4% to 256.610).
The registrations of Jeep instead they grew by 58%, the best month ever, and the best performance among the brands of the group (from 44.419 to 70.203 units; in January-May +49% to 275.796 units); those of Ram Truck they rose by 19%, the best May since 2005 (from 32.649 to 38.932 units; in the five months +24% to 179.095). Overall, auto sales fell 27% to 39.917 units, while vans grew 38% to 154.504.
