CGIL: Monti attacks, Squinzi brakes

The ears are ringing today on Corso d'Italia. In the midst of the electoral campaign, the relationship between the political world and the CGIL is one of the central themes in the public debate. This is demonstrated by the statements received today by the premier, Mario Monti, and by the number one of Confindustria, George Squinzi. The twist is in the total divergence of the two positions.

“We have introduced a reform to inject more flexibility into the labor market – said the Professor in Davos, where the World Economic Forum is underway -. But we haven't gone far enough because one of the unions (the CGIL, ed) it is considerably resistant to change. We need to change this culture." Monti also recalls how recently Susanna Camusso's union "also said no to an agreement on productivity that the other unions have accepted".

The president of Confindustria, on the other hand, thinks differently. According to Squinzi - who spoke today at RadioAnch'io, on Radio Rai 1 -, the CGIL "it is not an obstacle to reforms and interventions for growth. We need 'a new Italian miracle and I don't think anyone is blocking this type of intervention and reform'.

Yesterday the association of industrialists presented a recovery program to be submitted to the political forces competing for the next policies. “I know that the CGIL is also about to present its programmatic document – added Squinzi -. I don't know the contents yet, but I would like to remind you that we are all in the same boat. We are in the midst of the perfect storm. We must all start rowing in the same direction: I hope that the cohesion that allowed our nation to emerge from the crisis of the Second World War will be found”.
