The opening of the most important world ceramics fair in Bologna (over 600 exhibitors) signals the recovery of the sector, which in 2020, after years of stagnation, grew in Europe and Italy

Cersaie, sprint restart for Made in Italy ceramics

More natural environments, continuity between internal and external spaces, greater attention to the materials and detergents we use to wash them: the pandemic has brought only bad things into our lives, but it hasn't killed our creativity and our will to live, to grow and prosper. This is what we can touch with our hands these days a cersaie, the world's most important event for ceramic, which opened its doors for the 38th edition yesterday Bologna, where it will remain until October XNUMXst. It's about the return of a great Fair in attendance, with a very rich program of initiatives supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the ICE Agency and opened by a conference on "Sustainability, energy transition and international competition for Made in Italy", with the Minister of Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti .

For those who are no longer used to these impressive demonstrations, the patience of the people who, in an orderly fashion and in long lines, wait to show the Green pass or to swab a swab is impressive, because the protocols are very strict for access to the exhibition spaces and at meetings. But it is precisely this rigidity, this seriousness, this patience that guarantees security and development. They know it well 623 exhibitors who joined the event, 38% of them foreigners, coming from 28 nations and distributed on 15 pavilions dedicated to ceramics for architecture and bathroom furnishings.

This large slice ofItalian industry, which it occupies nearly 20 thousand people in 200 establishments, also withstood the terrible 2020, when, thanks above all to exports, the turnover of the ceramic tile sector was around 5,1 billion euros, 86% achieved outside the Italian borders. But it is above all the present and the future that entrepreneurs in the sector look optimistic about and the comparison of the 2021 numbers with those of 2019 shows that the restart is with a bang. The volume of business in Europe grows by about 16% and even the Italian market rises by 11% after years of stagnation. The Bolognese appointment therefore marks a fresh start for those who have never stopped running, thinking, challenging. From an inventive point of view, the pandemic has even become one more opportunity to develop proposals and meet the changing needs of customers, which are those of take home a bit of nature, even imaginary.

For years, ceramics have been imitating natural stones and doing it so perfectly that they look like a gourmet chef who challenges those of traditional cuisine with his vegan dishes. But now he adds the fantastic, the imaginative to the natural, because this is within his possibilities and he transforms himself into a carpet or a jungle or a brush stroke.

In recent months, attention has also increased towards the open spaces (terraces, patios balconies). As a consequence, the architectural and design projects developed specifically to unite interiors and exteriors have multiplied. Therefore, collections are presented in Bologna that include variants suitable both for installation in covered spaces and in outdoor environments.

Ample space is then reserved for world of architecture. Among the things worth noting is the exhibition on the work of the young architects involved by Renzo Piano in the G124 project, named after the studio of the life senator in Palazzo Giustiniani. The task of the group was to produce studies of "mending" of the suburbs over the course of a year.

For those who want a professional opinion, come back for the ninth edition "Cersaie Designs Your Home”: it is about real advice that on Thursday and Friday the designers of 13 newspapers will supply to private individuals in a place called Agorà dei media, in the Service Center of the Fair.

On the theme of the redevelopment of the house, the meeting "Superbonus and other incentives for ceramics and bathroom furnishings” with a large number of experts.

For those who want to finally enjoy one of one keynote, the appointment is on Friday at 11 at the Palazzo dei Congressi with the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, one of the winners of the Pritzker Priz. The guest will be introduced by the architectural historian Francesco Dal Co.
