The 42nd edition of the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio: as per tradition, the elite of finance, politics and the business world from all over the world are guests in the splendid setting of Villa d'Este until Sunday 4 for a series of closed-door debates entitled "The scenario of today and of tomorrow for competitive strategies”.
The focus of the three days is, as usual, the global economic situation, the EU, the banks, but above all – this year – the post-Brexit scenarios and the next key events for Italy, starting from referendum on constitutional reform, a crucial junction also awaited by the international community and on which the Ambrosetti – The European House team will present an unpublished research.
There are 250 participants from the economic-financial and entrepreneurial world on the shores of Lake Como, 60 speakers, 20 countries and 9 governments represented, 2 vice presidents of the European Commission and 4 commissioners. This year the President of the Council opens the works, Matteo Renzi, in his second presence after that of last year, and after having deserted that of 2014 in his first year of office. The premier will then leave for China, where he is expected for the G-20.
The first day is dedicated to world situation, with panel discussions on global risks and economic impacts, with a focus on the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Israel. Also today the Minister of the Economy intervenes, Pier Carlo Padoan, called to express his views on the global and Italian economic situation.
Saturday will instead be dedicated toEuropean Union, between integration and disintegration, Brexit and the migrant crisis. Issues such as the future of the euro, the Greek crisis, growth and investments will be discussed by the first vice-president of the EU Commission, Franz Timmermans, and former premiers Mario Monti and Enrico Letta, the president of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the vice president of the EU Commission with responsibility for the Euro Valdis Dombrovskis and the member of the executive committee of the ECB Yves Mersch. Instead, the Minister of the Interior, Angelino Alfano, will discuss the migrant crisis.
Sunday's panels will be dedicated to Italian situation, from work to research, from infrastructure to growth. And The European House – Ambrosetti will present a report which, underlines Valerio De Molli, managing director of the think tank, will highlight how the overall Italian economic picture, "which we read as slightly positive, has slowed down significantly, even if it is not yet in negative territory".
But above all we will talk about constitutional reforms, with the presentation of another study by The European House – Ambrosetti, which will examine the medium and long-term impacts and which will be commented on by the Minister for Reforms, Maria Elena Boschi. “The first evidence – explained De Molli – is that the reforms did not represent a shock, but were an ordinary maintenance intervention. Overall, there is positive evidence of the impact of these reforms”. Among the speakers on Sunday there will also be the Minister of Justice Andrea Orlando, the head of Labor Giuliano Poletti, the Minister of Education Stefania Giannini, the vice president of the CSM Giovanni Legnini, the general secretary of the CGIL Susanna Camusso and the secretary of the League North Matteo Salvini.
