Mobile phones, goodbye to telemarketing: how to join the Opposition Register

No more harassing cell phone calls. The Council of Ministers has approved the reform of the public register of oppositions to telemarketing, a measure awaited for years which simplifies the procedures that allow for the withdrawal of consent to promotional calls or the sending of unwanted advertising material, extending the range of the Registry also to mobile numbers as well as landlines and paper mail.

The new rules will enter into force after the signature of the President of the Republic and the subsequent publication in the Official Gazette.

“I am satisfied because we have approved another important reform that is eagerly awaited by citizens who have the right to have their privacy protected from invasive promotional activities. With this tool, the aim is finally to regulate a phenomenon that has become unacceptable”, declared the Minister of Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti.

Telemarketing: what is the opposition register

The register of oppositions is nothing more than a public service, totally free, to which citizens can subscribe to stop being contacted by telemarketers unless the latter have obtained specific consent to use the data. Until today this service was available only for fixed numbers and for paper mail. With the reform approved by the Draghi government, it will also be extended to mobile phone numbers, giving citizens the possibility to revoke their consent to promotional calls and the sending of advertising material for mobile telephone users

Telemarketing: how to register in the opposition register

There are four ways available to citizens to register in the register of oppositions:

Penalties for operators

Telemarketing operators who use the data of a user registered on the Registry portal are subject to an administrative fine up to 20 million euros or, for businesses, up to 4% of the previous year's total worldwide annual turnover.

  1. Hello, I called the green number 800265265 but it does not connect and the communication drops. Tried 3 times now, 09,21 – they should answer after 09 in the morning since they write it on the site… well

  2. Misleading ad…..
The title says Stop telemarketing even on cell phones, but there is no reference to cell phones in the article, nor is it possible to call the toll-free number. Do you really think you can fool people?
