Yet another day of passion for Banca Carige. At the beginning of the afternoon, the bank's stock traded in negative territory by 3,3%, at 0,067, in any case a difficult day for the entire banking sector after the release of some disappointing quarterly reports.
The numbers relating to the first nine months also explain the sales on Carige: the Ligurian bank announced yesterday evening that it had closed the January-September period with a large loss, but ensures Mediobanca's guarantee for the subscription of the capital increase up to 650 million.
Carige recorded a red of 328,8 million, which, however, net of non-recurring effects, would be 50 million. Value adjustments on loans to customers amounted to 319 million, down by 18% compared to the same period of 2013.
As regards capital, at the end of September the Common Equity Tier1 capital ratio was 9,4%. The Bank also announced that it will exercise the right not to pay the interest on a subordinated bond which matures on 4 December.
Together with Mps, Carige was one of the two Italian banks rejected in the stress tests by the ECB and EBA, which highlighted a lack of capital of 814 million euros. The institute has prepared a series of countermeasures, including a capital increase.
