Waiters wanted: the job is there, the candidates are not

The demand for these professional figures increases with the tourist season, but the search for employment agencies is increasingly difficult: it seems that Italians reject this occupation en masse

Waiters wanted: the job is there, the candidates are not

There are no more waiters. The alarm was sounded by the Orienta employment agency, which in a statement announced that it had opened searches and selections for these professional figures in numerous cities. There are over 200 jobs available, scattered between Rome, Milan, Turin, Florence, Venice, Verona, Savona, Pisa, Viterbo, Livorno, Trento and Modena.

"The request for waiters, especially with the start of the tourist season, but not only, is always very complicated - explains Pamela Pierangeli, Lazio and Campania Orienta Spa Area Manager - In this case we are talking about the waiter, a key figure in catering. He is the point of contact between the customer and the service, he reflects the image of a place ”.

The waiter generally takes care of welcoming customers, table service, cleaning and tidying up the dining room. The waiters on the floors, on the other hand, take care of cleaning and arranging the hotel rooms and carrying luggage.

“It is an activity that requires a certain professionalism and predisposition – continues Pierangeli – it cannot be improvised, and then it also involves a certain spirit of sacrifice, such as working on Saturdays and Sundays. There is a growing difficulty in finding these figures on the market. While on the one hand there is a need to renew the contents and training of an increasingly important job, on the other we should relaunch the appeal of this profession which, if well interpreted, could also lead to important professional developments”.

Those interested can go to the Orienta website, register and attach their Curriculum Vitae.
