Bpm turns 150 and celebrates ties with the local area

Bpm celebrates: 150 years have passed since the day of its foundation. And to celebrate the event, he lined up the bank's top management: Professor Dino Piero Giarda, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Professor Mario Anolli, Chairman of the Management Board, and Doctor Giuseppe Castagna, Chief Executive Officer.

"Our Bank was born in 1865 with the aim of promoting access to credit for the weakest sections of the emerging class of economic operators and encouraging the process of development and growth. After 150 years we continue to be at the service of our territories, proud of our past and projected towards the future and the next objectives to be achieved", said Piero Giarda in his initial greeting, doing the honors during the press conference which gave start of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Institute. The chairman of the supervisory board recalled the origins of BPM and the story of its foundation by Louis Luzzatti as well as the close bond that has always united the Bank with the city of Milan and the other reference territories.

Professor Anolli continued, going over the main stages that characterized 2014: “We have left behind a complicated year not only for BPM, but for the entire banking system. However, we managed to successfully face the many challenges and close the year with excellent financial and economic results, so as to reposition the Bank's name among the best in the country”.

The event was an opportunity to illustrate the numerous initiatives that will be organized until the end of the year, including Casa BPM, the BPM Tour, the issue of a celebratory stamp, the Milan album and the Food for Thought, food for souls.

During this year, Hall of Columns, the conference room of the central office in Piazza Meda (obtained by covering the central courtyard of the former Palazzo Corio Casati with a glass dome, a precious example of XNUMXth-century city architecture), takes on a symbolic value of welcome and hospitality and becomes Casa BPM: a space made available to the city, local partners and customers for the organization of conferences, pictorial and photographic exhibitions, meetings on historical and economic themes, musical and sporting events and other initiatives.

Furthermore, the prototype of the Chair of Food of thought, food of the soul will find space in the BPM headquarters: this structure will be used to exhibit the volume which, with the same title, will be available to Expo visitors to reflect on the images and texts who remember what nourished us with culture, art, knowledge.

The initiative is sponsored by the Prime Minister, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Activities and Tourism, Education, University Research and Agricultural, Environmental, Forestry Policies, as well as UNESCO , is published by Touring and Skirà, and contains contributions by Haim Baharier, Enzo Bianchi, Walter Siti, Riccardo Muti, Paolo Sorrentino, Patrizia Valduga and Alberto Melloni, a well-known scholar of the history of Christianity. Some of the Chairs, created by Carlos Pambianchi, famous architect and designer, will be present at the Expo in the Italy Pavilion.

As evidence of the link with the city that gave birth to it and which has earned it the nickname of bank of the Milanese, BPM, in collaboration with Corriere della Sera, has created L'album di Milano, a collection of stickers designed by the cartoonist Emilio Giannelli, which will be distributed free of charge every Friday, starting from 27 March for 8 weeks, in conjunction with the periodical Sette. The figurines represent 150 characters who from 1865 to 2015 left their mark on the history of the city in the political, economic, cultural, fashion, design and sport fields.

The initiatives do not concern only Milan. Thanks to the BPM Tour project: together for 150 years, a journey through the Bank's main areas, local stakeholders will participate in a series of activities and will become witnesses of this important anniversary.

Also employees will be involved in the celebrations of this anniversary in line with the principle of engagement that has always characterized the Bank's approach towards colleagues: a dedicated newsletter that will update them on the progress of the BPM Tour which they will be able to comment also through images and posts and specific contests followed by an event that will reward the best contributions.

Furthermore, BPM will be the first bank in Italy to become the protagonist of a celebratory stamp that the Ministry of Economic Development has agreed to include in Poste Italiane's philatelic program for 2015.

The press conference was also an opportunity to present the mini-site, www.150bpm.it, which will be updated with videos, images and information as part of the 150th anniversary celebration and supported by content sharing on social media, in order to involve wider audiences.

“A rich man celebration program who will accompany BPM with its customers, shareholders and employees" - declares the Chief Executive Officer, Giuseppe Castagna - "We wish to put the Bank at the center of our territories to ensure that it continues to play a central role in the growth of the country, as it has for 150 years".
