Record-breaking Tokyo Stock Exchange: seventh rise in a row

The Japanese stock market closed higher for the seventh session in a row, reaching the record of consecutive increases recorded in April 2015 – The weakening of the yen against the dollar and the lower-than-expected trade deficit weigh heavily.

Record-breaking Tokyo. There Japanese stock exchange closed its seventh consecutive session higher, reaching the levels reached in April 2000. In detail, the index Nikkei gained 0,74%, rising to 20.314,77 points while the broader Topix rose by 0,69% to 1.659,15 points at the end of an averagely dynamic session, with two billion shares traded.

Two factors would contribute to pushing Tokyo upwards: better than expected foreign trade data and the weakening of the yen against the dollar. In detail, according to data released by the Ministry of Finance of Japan (MOF), the country's trade deficit stood at 53,44 billion yen (439 million dollars), improving from the deficit of 825,527 billion in the same month of a year earlier, exceeding market expectations which were for a negative balance of around 351 billion yen.

Remaining on the subject of Asia, the Shanghai stock exchange, still trading, recorded growth of around 3%, while Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok all travel with a minus sign and Singapore recorded slight increases. Among the exchanges already closed, Seoul recorded an increase of 1,10%, while Taiwan closed with a modest +0,07%.
