“BlancioOpen”: the app that reveals the state accounts

The Ministry of Economy launches “Open Budget“, an app that makes the Italian state budget accessible to all citizens, not just insiders. Created by the State General Accounting Office in collaboration with Sogei, technological partner of the Treasury, the application can be downloaded directly from the MEF website or free from the Google Play Store and Apple Store (in the "News" category as "iPhone app", but can also be consulted with iPad and iPod touch).

"Blancio Aperto is aimed at parliamentarians, who must be able to have an agile consultation method for their assessments - reads a note from the ministry -, but also at economists, institutional representatives, the academic world and all citizens interested in easy access to data and understanding of balance sheet items".

It has also been included in the App menu a glossary which clarifies the meaning of the technical terms used in the budget documents. In the future, the application will be enriched with new features, such as the ability to process information and share data of interest outside the app.

“Blancio Aperto” represents “a further effort at transparency – continues the Treasury – and is meant to be a meeting point between citizens and the State Administration”. The application "will keep users updated on the various phases of the budget cycle" and aims to become the gateway "to the other databases on public finance", concludes the MEF.
