Petrol: Italian prices 20% higher than the EU average

According to Codacons, "a liter of petrol in Italy costs almost 20% more than the EU average, while for diesel the difference with the rest of Europe reaches +18 percent" - This is "an unacceptable difference, caused partly from excessive taxation, partly from too slow alignment of price lists with oil prices”

Petrol: Italian prices 20% higher than the EU average

“While oil prices collapse to their lowest since 2009, Italy is at the top of the EU ranking for petrol and diesel prices”. The supports it Codacons, announcing a complaint to the European Commission and the Italian Antitrust "in order to shed light on the dynamics of fuel price lists".

According to the consumer association, “a liter of petrol costs almost 20% more in Italy than the EU average, while for diesel the difference with the rest of Europe reaches +18 percent”.

This is "an unacceptable difference, caused in part by excessive taxation, in part by a too slow alignment of price lists with oil prices", says the president of Codacons, Carlo Rienzi, underlining that for the long weekend of 8 December Italians received "a sting of 30 million euros just for fuel supplies" due to the failure to reduce prices at the pump.

In fact, excise duties account for 68,63% of the price of petrol and 64,1% on that of diesel. The percentages have been published by Assopetroli and Assoenergia, which with the collaboration of Figisc-Anisa, have elaborated data provided by the European Commission Oil Bulletin and by the Ministry for Economic Development.

The difference with the European average stands at 21,3 eurocents per liter for petrol and 19,9 eurocents for diesel. For green, 22,8 cents of excise duty are paid more than the European average, while for diesel 22. The industrial price, on the other hand, shows a negative differential of 1,5 cents for petrol and 2,1 cents for diesel.
